The wonders of coconut oil

Coconut oil has a multitude of health benefits, which include but are not limited to skin care, hair care, improving digestion and immunity against a host of infections and diseases. This oil acts as an effective moisturiser on all types of skin, including dry skin, it is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays the appearance of wrinkles and sagging of skin and helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. For that exact reason, coconut oil forms the base ingredient of various body care products like soaps, lotions, and creams that are used for skin care. Here's some tips and idea for a few recipes to replace your personal care products using coconut oil!

Deep Conditioner for Hair 1 – 2 tablespoons of coconut oil 2 – 4 drops of essential oils (tea-tree and lemon help eliminating dandruff) Apply on hair and scalp in the evening, comb the oil through to the ends of your hair until the oil is evenly distributed and leave on for a few hours (if possible overnight, it works better the longer you leave it). You can wrap it up in a towel/clingfilm or shower-cap if you prefer, and when you're ready, wash it off as you would normally wash your hair!

Face Moisturiser I’ve found nothing else that leaves my skin feeling as soft and smooth as this natural moisturiser. 1 tablespoon of coconut oil 1 – 2 tablespoons of shea butter 2 – 4 drops of essential oils (rose and neroli helps preventing fine lines and wrinkles) 1 tablespoon of rosehip oil - optional Put coconut and shea butter in a bowl and warm them up to melt them. Add a few drops of essential oil (and the rosehip oil to fight ageing of the skin) Place in a small glass container, let it solidify (put it in the fridge to accelerate the process!) and use in the morning and evening after you've cleansed your face!

Lipbalm 1 – 2 teaspoons of coconut oil approx. 1 teaspoon of beeswax 1 – 2 drops of essential oils (peppermint for a fresh tingly sensation) Heat your coconut oil until it becomes liquid. Add beeswax and continue to heat until the wax melts. Stir together and mix in a drop or two of your favourite essential oil.

Toothpaste Coconut oil is one of nature’s most efficient anti-microbial 1/2 cup of coconut oil 4 – 6 tablespoons of baking soda or activated charcoal 1 teaspoon of powdered xylitol or stevia - optional 15 – 20 drops of essential oils Melt the coconut oil, add the rest of the ingredients, put in a container and let it solidify. You can dip the bristles directly into the jar or use a wooden popsicle stick to scoop the toothpaste out and dab it onto the brush.

Body Scrub 1 cup of coconut oil 1 cup of epsom salt/ Himalayan salt/ coffee 15 – 20 drops of essential oils Warm up your coconut oil until it becomes soft, but not liquid. Mix in salts and essential oils and stir until all of the ingredients are well incorporated. Store in a resealable glass jar. (Do not use the coffee if you use your scrub in the evenings) Oil Tips: For relaxation, use lavender and vanilla. To clear the mind and the sinuses, try eucalyptus and for a cool and refreshing scrub, peppermint is an excellent choice.

Shaving cream 1/4 cup of coconut oil 1/4 cup of shea butter 1 – 2 tablespoons of sweet almond oil 10 – 15 drops of essential oils Heat your coconut oil and shea butter until it gets nice and melted. Once the mixture is completely liquid, stir in sweet almond oil (or you can substitute olive oil) as well as your essential oils. Place the bowl in your refrigerator to let it cool down a bit. To get the right texture, you will then need to whip the oil mixture. An electric hand mixer works very well here. Otherwise, fill a larger bowl about halfway with ice water. While the oil is still warm and soft, place the bowl containing your coconut oil mixture into the ice water and whisk vigorously as it cools and solidifies. Store your shaving cream in a resealable glass jar.

I hope this help! Happy blending! It feels very rewarding and it's 100% natural!
